HORSE ON A ROPE --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was walking along with my horse on a rope,
or a lead-line, as most people say,
Not doing too much, just taking a walk, it is
such a beautiful day.
Some people have said, and you might as well,
that horses are meant to be ridden.
They’d say, “what a waste” to just walk with a
horse, and sadly, they wouldn’t be kidden.
But I keep on walking, with my horse on a rope,
in fact, sometimes we trot, even run!
He watches me struggle as I try to keep up, to
him this is really quite fun.
And its not that I don’t like riding my horse,
to ride is one of life’s greatest treasures,
But to miss out on just walking, next to my
horse, would forgo one of life’s sweetest
pleasures!
We keep on walking, my horsey and me, through
wherever the path wants to go,
We hike through the woods or jog up the hills,
it’s a time we both enjoy so!
To a horse it’s so natural, to just walk around,
with no special purpose in mind;
No schedule to meet, no place he must be, it’s
the journey that’s really so fine.
So for me and my horse, as we travel together, I
question something I need to know;
Does the horse go by choice or does the rope
force his path, if free, where would HE choose
to go?
The answer I need is not far away, but if wrong
I’ll appear such a dope-
I must set the horse free, and allow him to
choose, I must not keep him bound by the rope.
I was walking along with my horse on a rope, and
that time we had wasn’t so bad,
But the moment I offered my horse his free
choice, I discovered the true friend I had.
As the rope hits the ground and I turn away, I
wonder “Will he follow or go?”
A question most people are fearful to ask, but
an answer that I have to know.
I am walking along with a horse with no rope, a
sight you may not often see,
For this guy and his horse, that needed no rope,
just found out how good it could be!
